The National Institute of Standards Technology (NIST) initiated this study of screw-thread gaging systems for threaded products in order to address issues set forth by the community which generates, maintains, and uses Standards for screw-thread technology. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Center for Research and Tech. (ASME/CRTD) role as administrator of this study was formalized by letter dated May 13, 1994 from the NIST. ASME/CRTD Convened a panel which instituted several administrative procedures to identify and investigate issues about threaded products linked to inspection standards and specifications, metrology, and mechanical performance.
