1. Scope
1.1 This Standard prescribes requirements for the classification and certification of fluxes and carbon steel electrodes (both solid and composite) for submerged arc welding.
1.2 Welding fluxes and electrodes classified in this Standard are intended for submerged arc welding. This is not intended to preclude their use with any other process for which they are found suitable.
1.3 Fluxes and electrodes covered by this Standard are clas sified according to the (a) chemical composition of the electrode (for solid electrodes) as specified in Table 1, or the undiluted weld metal produced with a particular flux (for composite electrodes) as specified in Table 2; (b) mechanical properties of the weld metal obtained with a particular flux and a particular classification of solid electrode
