ANS 6.1.1-1977 presents data recommended for computing biological dose rates due to neutron and gamma-ray radiation fields. Neutron flux-to-dose rate conversion factors for energies from 2.5 x 10-8 to 20 MeV are given; the energy range for the gamma-ray conversion factors is 0.01 to 15 MeV. Specifically, this standard is intended for use by shield designers to calculate whole-body dose rates to radiation workers and the general public. Establishing dose-rate limits is outside the scope of this standard. Use of this standard in cases where the dose equivalents are far in excess of occupational exposure guidelines is not recommended.
