This report provides an assessment of the performance, feasibility and cost of current technologies for removing benzene from refinery wastewater streams. Physical and chemical data that pertain to benzene removal are provided as well as a discussion of benzene sources in refinery wastewaters. A summary of benzene quantity data developed in 1990 from representative refineries indicates the major benzene sources in refineries. The final chapter is a review of source control methods, management techniques and removal processes to reduce benzene loadings to the existing wastewater system.
